Director of Distance Education Enrollment Management - Unity College

Unity College is a private, liberal arts, sustainability science-based institution with an environmental focus. The College offers Bachelor’s and Associate's degrees and currently enrolls over 665 full and part-time students. Unity College enrolled its first cohort of full-time distance learning graduate students in October 2016 making this a very exciting and transformational time in the history of the College.

The Position

This newly created position reports to the Chief Distance Education Officer (CDEO). The Director of Distance Education Enrollment Management oversees planning, coordination, and evaluation of all recruitment, marketing, retention, and operational components of the Distance Education program at Unity College. This position works with the CDEO to continue to transform Unity College from a college with a strong regional presence to a leading national institution of higher education. Within the framework of functional leadership, this position will work closely with the Distance Education Team to identify and research new revenue streams, market academic programs, lead all distance education recruitment and retention efforts, day-to-day operations, and develop and enhance external partnerships to grow and sustain key distance education initiatives. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing operational policies, procedures and standards for quality assurance in distance education. Additional responsibilities include tracking and analyzing data to assist in developing and assessing distance education programs, building strong working relationships with external partners, and monitoring enrollment metrics.


A Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of distance education enrollment management experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree and 5-10 years of experience in higher education enrollment management, including distance education. The ideal candidate will possess direct experience in successful, productive online or distance education programs and a sophisticated understanding of the tenets of retention and recruitment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in creating and executing business, strategic, and operating plans, including an understanding of the national and global nature of the distance education marketplace and strategies for being competitive in this market. An entrepreneurial spirit is desired – a person dedicated to building an institutional enterprise. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent project management skills and proven supervisory and staff development skills to effectively manage teams, inspire quality performance, and enhance morale. Strong analytic, problem-solving, written and oral communication and presentation skills are expected. Positive attitude, flexibility, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion are also expected.
