Martha H. Smiles
As an executive search consultant for more than a decade, Martha H. Smiles brings a vast amount of experience and a large network of professionals to Williams & Company. Before establishing her own executive search firm in 2011, Martha served as senior associate at a nationally recognized firm where she focused on search management, client and candidate relations, and new business development. She has worked with hundreds of colleges and universities and not-for-profit organizations to identify, recruit, and hire talented senior-level leaders.
Martha invests a significant amount of time in developing a deep understanding of her client's needs, culture, and aspirations. She leverages this with effective relationship building and candidate cultivation. Described as hard working, thorough, knowledgeable, and ethical, Martha is a valued partner to organizations seeking to recruit and hire talented leaders to develop and expand their leadership team.
As an executive search consultant Martha has partnered with well over 100 colleges, universities, secondary schools and not-for-profit organizations. Her diverse client list includes small private and public colleges, mid-large public and private universities, and nationally recognized not-for-profit organizations. In addition to enrollment management and admissions searches, Martha's portfolio of searches includes admissions, financial aid, registrar, career services, student affairs, development and institutional advancement.
Prior to her work in executive search, Martha served as an admissions officer for Connecticut College and as associate director of admissions/director of international recruitment for Skidmore College. In addition to her on-campus admissions-related responsibilities, Martha served as a delegate to the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC), Executive Board member of the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling (NYSACAC), and on-site Coordinator for NYSACAC's Summer Institute.
Martha received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Lake Forest College (IL) and is currently pursuing a professional executive coaching certificate. She resides and works in Noank, CT with her husband and two Tibetan Terriers. Committed to giving back and volunteering, Martha has bicycled nearly 1000-miles and completed four marathons to raise several thousand dollars for not-for-profit organizations.
